Experimental Determination of Steam Water Relative Permeability Relations

چکیده
A set of relative permeability relations for simultaneous ow of steam and water in porous media have been derived from experiments conducted under conditions that eliminate most errors associated with saturation and pressure measurements. These relations show that the relative permeability for steam phase in porous media varies linearly with saturation. The liquid phase, however shows a variation close to that observed by Corey (1954) in water/gas experiments. This departure from the nitrogen/water behavior indicates that there are fundamental di erences between steam/water and nitrogen/water ows. The saturations in these experiments were measured by using a high resolution X-ray computer tomography (CT) scanner. In addition the pressure gradients were obtained from accurate measurements of liquid phase pressure over portions with at saturation pro les. These two aspects constitute a major improvement in the experimental method compared to those used in the past. Comparison of the saturation pro les measured by the X-ray CT scanner during the experiments shows good agreement with those predicted by numerical simulations. To obtain results that are applicable to general ow of steam and water in porous media similar experiments should be done at higher temperature and with porous rocks with di erent wetting characteristics and porosity distribution.

Calculation of Steam-water Relative Permeability Using Capillary Pressure Data
Various capillary pressure approaches such as the Purcell, Burdine, Corey, and Brooks-Corey methods were used to calculate steam-water relative permeabilities using the measured data of steamwater capillary pressure in both drainage and imbibition processes. The calculated results were compared to the experimental data of steam-water relative permeability measured in Berea sandstone. The steam-...

A series of steady-state experiments have established relative permeability curves for two-phase flow of water in a porous medium. These experiments have minimized uncertainty in pressure, heat loss, and saturation. By attempting to maintain a constant pressure gradient, the experiments have provided a baseline from which to determine the effect of temperature on relative permeability. The use ...
متن کاملSPE 90233 Experimental Study of Phase Transformation Effects on Relative Permeabilities in Fractures
Phase transformation affects multiphase flow in geothermal and gas-condensate reservoirs due to the same substance occurring in different phases. These effects change the phase behavior and the flow characteristics. The goals of this research were to compare the flow behavior and relative permeabilities difference between two-phase flow with and without phase transformation effects in smooth-wa...
متن کاملSteam-Water Capillary Pressure
Steam-water capillary pressure is of central importance in geothermal reservoir engineering, however it is still poorly known due to the difficulty making direct measurements. To this end, we have conducted experimental and theoretical studies over the past five years and have made significant progress in understanding fundamental steamwater flow. In this paper, we summarize and discuss the res...

The goal of this research has been to compare steamand air-water transport through fractured media and gain better understanding of the behaviors of relative permeability in fractures. Airwater (or nitrogen-water) relative permeabilities are often used for geothermal reservoir simulations while steam-water relative permeabilities in fractures are rarely measured owing to difficulties and comple...
